Each One Reach One
Dr. Travis A. Laney, Senior Pastor
Florida Gardens Baptist Church called Dr. Laney as Senior Pastor on June 10, 2007. He grew up in Titusville, Florida and has also lived in Louisiana and Kentucky. While living in Kentucky, he served 7 years as senior pastor at English Baptist Church in Carrollton prior to coming to FGBC. Also while in Kentucky, he received both a M.Div. and Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. Dr. Laney's dissertation focused on Romans 9-11 and was entitled "A Partial Hardening Has Come Upon Israel: Divine Hardening and Its Implications for Jewish Evangelism."
Our pastor met his wife, Allison, while serving at a Baptist Campus Ministry in Louisiana. This year they will celebrate 13 years of marriage. Additionally, the Lord has blessed them with four sons: Ben, Luke, Ty, and Nate. Dr. Laney also serves as an Adjunct Professor at both Palm Beach Atlantic University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, Miami Extension. In his free time, he confesses that he loves to play golf and is a huge FSU fan.
Don Sloan, Minister of Music
Don began serving at Florida Gardens Baptist Church in August of 1989. He was born and raised in the West Palm vicinity. Florida Gardens is the fourth church in which Don has served on a part-time basis. He recently retired after teaching on the elementary level for 36 years. He has also served the Lord through music for 37 years.
Don met his wife, Mervyl, when they were in the church youth group during their high school years. After each had lost their spouses to death, God brought them together. In June of 2003 they were married. Both serve in several capacities at the church. Between them they have three children and one grandson. Don loves most sports having recently played co-ed softball with the church team. He is also a FSU fan, but graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University (no football program- yet).
Jonathan Gibson, Minister to Students and Families
Jonathan, who has been serving in Student Ministry for over ten years, is Minister to Students and Families, joining the staff at FGBC in June 2010. Before moving back to Florida, he served in churches in South Carolina and Alabama. His heart and desire for students is two-fold: to build strong relationships with the students that will in turn lead them to pursue a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ and to equip them to answer the unique call God has on their own lives.
"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here am I. Send Me'!"--Isaiah 6:8. Where has God called you? Are you following the voice of the Lord in that call?
Jonathan met his wife, Etta, while traveling the country with a Christian sports camp called "Crosspoint." They have been married since 2001 and the Lord has blessed with two children: Chloe and James. Jonathan is highly active in our community serving the local middle and high schools in our area through First Priority and Jam Clubs. He also regularly coaches sports teams through Upward Ministries.
In his free time, Jonathan loves spending time with his family and teaching his children how to surf and skateboard. And as an avid Gator fan, he is glad to be back in the "Sunshine State."
Gina Zeichman, Office Administrator
Gina joined Florida Gardens Baptist Church (FGBC) in 1988 and has served the Lord in multiple capacities. Following a short stay in north Florida, Gina and her family returned to FGBC in 2002 and began serving as the church secretary in 2005. In addition to overseeing the administrative needs of the church, Gina follows her "God-given heart" for young children by ministering occasionally as a Sunday School teacher, in Vacation Bible School, and by co-directing the children's handbells. She attributes this passion for the religious education of students to the fact that she was raised in a Christian home and hurts for those children who do not know or hear about Christ.
Gina's family includes Tom, her husband, and three children—Tommy and his wife Lauren, Joe and his wife Catie, and Dana. Gina's parents, Alva and Gene Kiser also attend FGBC. Gina's hobbies include landscape and gardening, renovation projects, and antique shopping.
